Self-Regulated Learning

From Slavin (2009): "Schunk and Zimmerman (2003) argue that motivation to engage in self-regulated learning is not the same as achievement motivation in general because self-regulated learning requires the learner to take independent responsibility for learning, not to simply comply with the teacher's demands. Fredericks, Blumenfeld, and Paris (2004) use the terms engagement and investment to describe motivation that leads students to engage in self-regulated learning, rather than simply doing the work and following the rules" (p. 303).
