Singing
Kempter (2001): "An easy way to tell if beginning students have listened sufficiently is to see if they can sing the melody of each piece before attempting to play it. Singing develops the ear and creates a strong tie between what the child hears and will eventually play" (p.8).
Words to book 1 songs are available, but Kempter (2001) suggests: "The most beneficial words to these pieces...are the ones the parent and child compose together" (p.8).
